Something that is marginal. Someone who is marginal. In these United States, art has never been much valued. Artists here have never been much loved. Paraphrasing Adorno: In today’s world it is precisely those things that are the most unloved which are the most precious. A marginal profession or pursuit. An artist’s artist’s artist. Perspectives must be fashioned that displace and estrange the world, revealing it to be, with its rifts and crevices, as indigent and distorted as it will appear one day in the messianic light.
